Bio

Born in Brazil, raised in Panama, and currently residing in the U.S., Rodrigo Sánchez composes music that is the result of a melting pot of influences. Growing up, Brazilian music was the family choice and so the swing, melodies and harmonies of artists as diverse as Milton Nascimento, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Chico Buarque and Tim Maia; permeated his young ears and brain. At age 10 he picked up the guitar for the first time and started learning and by age 14 formed his first Rock/Pop band which eventually became known as Topus Uranus, quickly becoming a staple of live excitement unpredictability in the Panamanian underground circuit. He later received an invitation to perform in one song for Ruben Blades’ La Rosa de Los Vientos, which received a Grammy Award in 1997. In 1999, Rodrigo moved to the U.S. to study Jazz Guitar at the prestigious University Of North Texas Jazz Program, graduating in 2003 and bringing this new influence into his approach to songwriting. Before graduation, he received an offer from Music Maker Publications to become a writer and editor at Músico Pro magazine. Shortly after moving to the company’s headquarters in Boulder, Colorado, Sánchez conducted one-on-one interviews with a string of legendary musicians such as B.B. King, Aerosmith, Michael Brecker, Alejandro Sanz, Diane Warren, Gustavo Santaolalla, Slash, etc., picking their brains and gaining invaluable insight and inspiration in the process, which he used in both his new songs and articles. At the same time he performed original material with his own band, and played guitar for several other local acts.
In 2009 he released a collection of songs entitled 4 Reasons, recorded with the best musicians in the Denver metro area and produced/engineered by Fernando Curiel.
Later that year he received an invitation from EMI Music Publishing Latin America to work with some of their featured writers, and made the move to Miami.
Rodrigo has already written and recorded songs with some of the biggest names in songwriting in the Latin music industry, including Grammy, ASCAP and Premio Lo Nuestro winners.
He is currently writing material with several songwriters, producers and artists, performing as a solo Bossa Nova guitarist as well as a singer-songwriter and penning articles for several magazines, including Panorama de Las Américas, the in-flight monthly mag of COPA Airlines.
